What is a HISA GRANT?

The HISA grant is the Home Improvement Structural Alterations grant provided by the Prosthetics office at most Veteran Affairs clinics around the nation. Example VA locations are the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital in San Antonio and the Central Texas Veteran Health Care System in Temple.

The grant is for qualifying disabled veterans with a disability rating of at least 50% or more. The grant allows up to $6800 lifetime to add ramps, door widening and/or roll in/walk in shower modifications for wheelchair and walker access. HISA contractors like All Access Renovations can help with the steps on applying for the HISA grant or if you already have the HISA application (VA Form 10-0103), All Access Renovations can help fill out. To complete a HISA application you need Form 10-0103 completly filled out, have an itemized estimate/quote from a HISA contractor and pictures of the unimproved area to be remodel which gets turned back into the Prosthetics office. It usually takes 2-3 months for a HISA application to be processes and first half of payment ($3400) to be direct deposited in disabled veterans account to pay HISA contractor to start work. Once work is complete, HISA contractor will take pictures of finished area, provide invoice for remaining amount to be paid, and Statement of Satisfaction and Request for Final Payment paperwork needs to be signed by veteran and all three documents need to be provided back to Prosthetics office for final payment ($3400) to be direct deposited into veterans account.
